The first time our sport of Dragon Boating was showcased in an International Extreme Sailing Series. The Aberdeen Extreme Sailing event took place on 22 Feb 2014, at Marina Bay and Dragon Boat Innovate is proud to be a part of this exclusive festival.
4 dragon boat teams had the privilege of paddling against the magnificent backdrop formed by the sailboats and Singapore’s city skyline. They were namely, Paddlers in the Pink and Hope in the Boat from the Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF), as well as all-ladies crews from Singapore Management University and British Dragon Boat Team. On a quick background, Aberdeen not only hosted the Extreme Sailing Series in Singapore, they are also a strong supporter of the BCF. Hence, it was a perfect opportunity to showcase the dragon ladies from BCF, along with other all-ladies teams.
The first race was a gruelling 2km challenge, which tested their willpower, endurance, and teamwork. The British Dragons Team emerged victors in this exciting race, with Singapore Management University a close second, followed by Paddlers in the Pink and Hope in the Boat. The highlight for the afternoon race was having the first ever 500m U-turn dragon boat race against an EX40 Catamaran. Girls power was irresistible and Paddlers in Pink eventually came out tops, when pitted against the highly-sophisticated Aberdeen Catamaran
It was surely a spectacular and historical moment for us to remember! For pictures of this event, please click here.
